FAMI is an acronym for Fat Autograft Muscle Injection. FAMI represents a minimally invasive, fat transfer procedure that addresses the loss of fat that people see in their faces over years of aging. Dr. Johnson harvests fat from areas you do not want it, refines it, and then carefully re-injects it into specific areas of your face. It is truly a mixture of science and art, and in turn, offers a worthy substitution for fillers or face lifts. Dr. Johnson plans the procedure by comparing a current photo of the patient to a photo of the patient when they were 18-20 years old. At 18-20, our bodies have the most fat in the facial areas, and photos from this age provide accurate representations of what was, and what could be after fat transfer. At Innovations Medical, all FAMI procedures are done while awake, under local anesthesia. This technique allows the patient to walk out of the office and lessen post procedure downtime.
Traditional fat transfer, also called autologus fat transplantation, has been around for a couple decades. Though the idea has stayed the same, the techniques and processes have changed dramatically. FAMI brings a new way of thinking to the fat transfer procedure. It begins to take in account the patient’s facial vascular paths, and as a result, patient can now see more consistency in the final outcome. The new FAMI technique uses the facial vascular network and places the fat into/under the facial muscles to provide long-lasting, symmetric results. FAMI is also the only procedure that uses custom designed fat transfer cannulas to place the harvested fat into the vascular facial muscle bed.
Yes. FAMI is an outpatient procedure performed at both our Dallas and Fort Worth offices. The procedure is done completely while you are awake. FAMI injects your face with your own living fatty tissue, restoring volume to areas where you have lost fat from aging. There is no risk of an allergic reaction since the fat is your own.
Typically, bruising is typical for about 2-3 weeks post procedure, accompanied with some swelling. Most patients can resume normal activities within a couple of days.
At Innovations Medical, achieving the most flattering cosmetic outcome is one of our main priorities. In recent years, much research has been done on improving fat transfer techniques and results. It is documented that Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an integral addition to achieving desired fat transfer outcomes. PRP is safe and poses no infectious risk to the patient because it’s made from the patient’s own plasma.
Platelets provide initial hemostasis and release mediators to help modulate the inflammatory response involved with wound healing.
